Ask the person to approve the exact invoice or tax return version in the signed-in app. Melso's professionals prepare and file included returns after approval; an AI assistant does not file. A prepared file or an approval is not evidence of filing: only the AEAT's reference and receipt are. Keep credentials out of chat and logs.

# Setup and fiscal profile

> The guided setup for autónomos, how an empresa is set up, what the fiscal profile holds and what setup pending means.

Your fiscal profile is the tax data Melso uses for your invoices, your fiscal
calendar and your returns. An autónomo fills it in through a guided setup. An
empresa is set up with the Melso team.

## Autónomo: the guided setup

The setup is called **Configura tus impuestos** (Set up your taxes). It has five
steps and saves your progress as you go. You can leave with **Guardar y salir**
(Save and exit) and come back from the **Configuración de impuestos** card with
**Continuar configuración** (Continue setup).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tu situación (Your situation)">
    Choose **Ya soy autónomo** (I am already self-employed) or **Todavía no soy
    autónomo** (I am not self-employed yet). If you are already registered, give
    your **Mes de alta** (registration month). Melso uses it to work out your
    withholding rate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tu actividad (Your activity)">
    Describe what you do in your own words. Melso proposes an **Epígrafe IAE**
    (IAE heading) from the description. Then say who you invoice: companies and
    self-employed people in Spain, individuals in Spain, companies in other EU
    countries, or customers outside the EU.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tus datos (Your details)">
    Enter **Nombre y apellidos** (full name), **DNI o NIE**, **Domicilio fiscal**
    (fiscal address), **Código postal** (postal code) and **Municipio**
    (municipality). All five are required. An autónomo's setup does not accept a
    CIF.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Facturación (Invoicing)">
    Answer **¿Cómo haces tus facturas?** (How do you make your invoices?). Choose
    **Sí, con Melso (VeriFactu)** to issue invoices with Melso, or **No, ya uso
    otro programa** if you already use another program. You can change this
    later. If you invoice with Melso you can add an IBAN for your invoices. It is
    optional.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Conexiones (Connections)">
    Connect WhatsApp and your Google account if you want to. Both are optional.
    Choose **Ahora no** (Not now) to skip, then **Terminar** (Finish).
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Not registered yet

Finishing the setup does not request your registration as an autónomo. The
setup only records whether you are registered. The registration is a separate
request that you send when you are ready.

When your setup is done and you are not registered, Home shows the card **Tu
alta está pendiente** (Your registration is pending) with the button **Tramitar
mi alta** (Process my registration). Sending it is a request: nothing is filed until you authorize it. The form asks for your start date, birth
date, Social Security number, a contact phone and email, the IBAN for your
self-employed contributions, and whether you want the flat rate if you qualify.
Send it with **Enviar solicitud** (Send request).

A Melso professional reviews the request and asks for your authorization before
filing it. After you send it, the details are locked. To correct one, write to
Melso's team.

## Empresa: set up with the Melso team

An empresa has no guided setup and is never in a setup-pending state. The Melso
team sets up the company with you. On the sign-up screen, the **Para empresas**
(For companies) card has the button **Hablar con Melso** (Talk to Melso).

A company's profile differs from an autónomo's in three ways:

* The tax ID is a CIF. An autónomo uses a DNI or NIE.
* The income tax method and the income tax withholding rate do not apply to a
  company.
* A company's invoices carry no IRPF withholding.

## What the fiscal profile holds

| Group | Fields |
| - | - |
| Identity | Tax ID (NIF), fiscal name, commercial name |
| Address | Fiscal address, postal code, municipality, province, tax territory |
| Activity | Description, IAE heading, type of activity (professional or business), who you invoice, intra-community operator status |
| Registration | Whether you are registered, and when |
| Taxes | Indirect tax regime, income tax method and withholding rate (autónomos), monthly VAT refund register, immediate supply of information |
| Invoicing | Invoice series, next invoice number, IBAN for collecting invoices |

Melso fills in some fields from the others so that you only confirm them:

* The province and the tax territory, from the postal code.
* The indirect tax regime, from the territory: IGIC in the Canary Islands, IPSI
  in Ceuta and Melilla, VAT elsewhere.
* The income tax method and the withholding rate for a professional.
* The invoice series and the next invoice number, once nothing is missing.

A value you give always wins over a deduced one.

### Required fields

The profile is complete when it has the fiscal name, a valid tax ID, the
address, the postal code, the tax territory, the type of activity and the
registration status. A registered professional also needs the registration date
when no withholding rate is saved.

## Edit the profile later

Open **Configuración** (Settings), then **General**, and go to **Datos
fiscales** (Fiscal details). Save with **Guardar datos fiscales** (Save fiscal
details). If some fields are wrong, the valid ones are still saved and the form
tells you which ones to correct.

The **Melso propone** (Melso proposes) box shows the tax territory, the type of
activity and the IRPF withholding that Melso worked out.

To switch invoicing on or off, use the switch **Emitir facturas con Melso**
(Issue invoices with Melso) in **Configuración**. Turn it off if you invoice
with another program. The **Facturas** (Invoices) section then leaves the
sidebar.

<Note>
  Only the company's owner or an admin can read and edit the fiscal profile. Only
  the owner can switch invoicing with Melso on or off. See
  [Team and access](/essentials/team).
</Note>

## What setup pending means

Setup pending applies to an autónomo whose guided setup has never been
completed. It ends once, the first time your fiscal setup is complete, and it
does not come back.

While setup is pending:

* A connected AI assistant sees only `company`, `fiscal_profile` and
  `support_tickets_create`. The record tools appear when setup is done. See
  [Permissions and approvals](/mcp/permissions).
* The [`company`](/mcp/tools/company) tool returns an `onboarding` object.
* Nothing is due on the fiscal calendar until your activity is registered.

Connecting WhatsApp, a Google account or invoicing does not hold the setup
back. They are offered afterwards.

* [Expenses and income](/essentials/expenses-income): upload and review your documents.
