> ## Agent Instructions
> Melso MCP: https://mcp.melso.ai/mcp (OAuth; one company per connection). Documentation-search MCP: https://docs.melso.ai/mcp; it does not act on customer accounts.
>
> Use the live tool list and respect company membership. Ask the person to approve the exact invoice or tax return version in the signed-in app. Melso's professionals prepare and file included returns after approval; an AI assistant does not file. A prepared file or an approval is not evidence of filing: only the AEAT's reference and receipt are. Keep credentials out of chat and logs.

# Connect VS Code

> Add the Melso MCP server to GitHub Copilot chat in VS Code with an install link, MCP: Add Server or .vscode/mcp.json.

VS Code adds Melso as a remote HTTP server that GitHub Copilot chat can use. Install it from the link below, or add it yourself, then sign in with Melso.

<Card title="Add Melso to VS Code" icon="code" href="vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22melso%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.melso.ai%2Fmcp%22%7D">
  Opens VS Code and offers to install the Melso server with URL `https://mcp.melso.ai/mcp`. Then start it and sign in.
</Card>

The link needs VS Code installed on this computer. The full link, to paste into a browser:

```text theme={null}
vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22melso%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.melso.ai%2Fmcp%22%7D
```

It decodes to `{"name":"melso","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.melso.ai/mcp"}` and carries no token or account identifier. For VS Code Insiders, replace `vscode:` with `vscode-insiders:`.

This page covers VS Code's own chat with GitHub Copilot. It says nothing about other Copilot products.

## Before you start

* VS Code with GitHub Copilot chat set up and MCP servers allowed. An organization can restrict MCP servers by policy.
* A Melso account in the company you want VS Code to use.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install the server">
    Select **Add Melso to VS Code** and confirm. If nothing opens, run **MCP: Add Server** from the Command Palette and add an HTTP server with URL `https://mcp.melso.ai/mcp` and name `melso`, or use the manual configuration below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start and trust the server">
    Run **MCP: List Servers**, select **melso** and start it. Confirm that you trust it when VS Code asks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with Melso">
    VS Code opens a browser for the OAuth flow. Sign in, choose the company and review the requested access.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make the first read">
    In the chat view, in agent mode, ask: **"Read my Melso company without changing anything."**
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Manual configuration

For one workspace, add Melso to `.vscode/mcp.json`. Use **MCP: Open User Configuration** to add it for your user profile instead. The wrapper key is `servers`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "servers": {
    "melso": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.melso.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Do not add headers or tokens. Do not commit a populated authentication header.

## First request

Chat calls [`company`](/mcp/tools/company), as in [Try a first read](/mcp/connect#try-a-first-read). Then ask for your expenses: [`expenses`](/mcp/tools/expenses) with `{"action": "list"}` reads them without changing anything. The [tool catalog](/mcp/tools) lists every tool; what you see depends on the plan, your role and setup ([Permissions and approvals](/mcp/permissions)). VS Code asks you to approve tool calls; keep that on for actions that change records. Chat can draft invoices. It issues one only when the owner asks, through the owner's own connection, and the [prerequisites](/mcp/permissions#issuing-an-invoice) are met; otherwise the owner issues it in the Melso app. No tool approves, files or pays a tax return.

If Melso's tools change, run **MCP: Reset Cached Tools**.

## Disconnect

* In VS Code: remove `melso` from `mcp.json`, or stop it from **MCP: List Servers**.
* In Melso: **Configuración**, tab **MCP**, then **Desconectar** next to the connection.

## If something fails

* **The link does not open VS Code.** Use **MCP: Add Server** or the manual configuration.
* **The server does not start.** Check that `type` is `http` and the URL is exact.
* Sign-in and tool list problems: see [Troubleshooting](/mcp/troubleshooting).

## Source and verification

The link follows VS Code's [MCP installation URL](https://code.visualstudio.com/api/extension-guides/ai/mcp#create-an-mcp-installation-url) format, and the configuration and commands follow the [MCP configuration reference](https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/agents/reference/mcp-configuration). Both were checked on 20 October 2026. This confirms the documented format, not a tested connection in your account.
